Knee Simulator

Knee-simulating machine for the evaluation of the performance of total knee replacement materials is an important requirement both at the design stage and after production of the finished components. Knee joint simulators are intended for wear testing of actual knee prosthesis materials. The study of wear associated with total knee joint replacement is an emerging area of research. The use of machines to simulate the motion of the body is useful in determining long-term success of current products. This also allows the orthopedic industry to develop and test new materials and designs.

Proper testing is required to thoroughly examine the possible problems or degree of success of a joint replacement. The available commercial knee joint simulators for validating the new joint materials are complex, difficult to operate and expensive. For basic wear and friction tests of new material candidates, a simple, reliable and easy to operate wear test device which still produces wear mechanisms similar to those occurring clinically in knee prosthesis is more practical.
