The model of the power absorption type gear test rig developed in house as a part of research work.  In this power absorption type gear test rig, the mating gear drives the test gear and the test gear shaft is connected to eddy current dynamometer. The required test torque of the test gear is introduced by varying the current ampere of the dynamometer. Both static and dynamic loading is possible. The product is also capable of measuring the vibration using piezo-electric type accelerometer, sound was sound level meter and gear surface temperature rise was non contact temperature sensor.

 

The sound level, vibration and test gear surface temperature were stored in PC by using the spider-8 data acquisition system. The self lubricating gears were made out of powder metallurgy process . The material composition contains iron powder with an addition of carbon, copper, nickel containing solid lubricant of molybdenum di sulphide.
