Academics

Academic programmes being offered at IIITD&M Kancheepuram are novel and differ from conventional counterparts. In the age of global competition, India is in need of engineering graduates with exposure to engineering design thinking and manufacturing aspects involved in Computer, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering. Our academic programmes imbibe the 'learning by doing' principle with core and allied courses supplemented by dedicated hours of practice. The curricula of all programs have been framed after extensive deliberations and discussions with academicians from reputed Institutes and experienced engineers from industry. All the students undergo industry internship as part of curricula that gives them exposure to real world problems and the confidence to solve them.

Curriculum

•The innovative curriculum has a blend of courses that imart knowledge on design   thinking and interdisciplinary engineering in addition to basic sciences and core   engineering concepts.

•Students undergo interdisciplinary courses such as embedded systems, automation,   sensors and controls and advanced manufacturing that will help them to design and   develop innovative engineering products.

•Practice sessions in well equipped laboratories reinforce the theory taught and provide   competence to solve real world problems.

•Engineering simulations practice using renowed software and hig-end work stations   expose the students to latest technology available ot model, visualize, analyse, and   simulate the complex systems.

•Design thinking imparted trough graphic arts practice and product design practice   enable students to conceptualize, design, simulate and develop real time products.

Evaluation System

The Institute follows a continuous assessment approach wherein students are evaluated right throughout the semester. The general grading pattern for most courses involves two quizzes (Continuous Assessment Test) / one mid semester exam and one end semester examinations with approximate weightage of 50:50. The institute follows the Cumulative Grade Point Average system. The CGPA is on a scale of 0 to 10. Each course carries a certain number of credits (usually ranging from 1 to 4) and the following letter grades are awarded to the students for each course on completion. Grading is done on relative basis
Research work is evaluated by a specially constituted Doctoral Committee with emphasis on referred journal/conference publications and the thesis is examined by a panel of examiners from India and abroad.

Letter Grade S A B C D E U W
Grade Points 10 9 8 7 6 4 0 0

The CGPA is computed as the cumulative credit-weighted average of the grade points:

Where:

N is the number of courses

Ci is credits for the ith course

GPi is grade points for the ith course

CGPA is the cumulative grade point average
