Institute programmes are different from traditional Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering courses. The curricula of such conventional programmes focus on the science behind the various engineering sectors, as a result giving more emphasis on theoretical concepts. Our curriculum includes learning of these sciences along with the sharp skills that are required to actually implement them in engineering world.

‘Learning by Doing’ is the motto of IIITD&M Kancheepuram’s curricula and all the courses offered by the respective faculty  involve exhaustive practice and design sessions to equip the students with good hands on experience in dealing with electronic and mechanical product design and manufacturing.

The curricula of these programmes have been framed in consultation Institutes of National Importance such as the IITs, IISc and the industry stake holders.

STUDENT SELECTION
Admissions to the various B.Tech programmes of the Institute are through AIEEE based on All India Rank. Students are admitted to the M.Des programmes on the basis of GATE / CEED scores.

FACULTY

All faculty members of the institute are doctoral degree holders from reputed institutions of national and international significance with good academic and research record and are involved in sponsored research and industrial consultancy.

Faculty members of the institute regularly publish research articles in journals and conferences of international reputation. They also serve on the program committee / editorial board of International / National conferences and journals.

LABORATORY FACILITIES
The institute houses some of the most modern and state of the art research equipment like the scanning electron microscope, video microscope, Coordinate Measurement Machine, NI Elvis kits, etc. and simulation softwares such as PROE, CAD/CAM, MATLAB, ALGOR, NI LabView, UniGraphics, etc.

PRODUCT DESIGN
A unique aspect of our Design & Manufacturing oriented curriculum is the Practice course of PRODUCT DESIGN AND PROTOTYPING both for undergraduates and graduates.  The aim of this course is to allow students to innovate , develop and design a new product in a semester’s duration. Students are involved in new product design / development under the guidance of faculty members.

INDUSTRIAL LECTURES
As part of the extra-curricular activities, the institute organizes invited / guest lectures by eminent academicians / industrialists in areas of relevance to the  undergraduate and post graduate scholars. This helps in exposing the students to the latest developments in the industry / research sector.
